To celebrate the sponsorship, Specsavers has launched a nationwide children's writing competition..Inspired by a beautiful cartoon inspired by a children's classic fairy-tale, children from across the country are being asked to create a short story in 500 words or less, beginning with the sentence; 'He could not believe his eyes...'. The inspiring cartoon includes some classic fairytale ingredients - but with a rather unusual twist - to fire young imaginations..The competition is open to all children and teenagers up to 16 years of age. The winner of each category will be presented with all shortlisted children's titles for 2012, while their school libraries will receive a donation of some of the best books Irish from 2011. .Application forms are available from any of the 42 Specsavers stores throughout Ireland or by downloading the cartoon and application form at www.irishbookawards.ie. .Don't hold back - let your imagination soar!
