Tobacco Protest 04.jpg
Repro Free: 13th Feb 2013: “Mr Big Tobacco” (actor Johnathan Clark) is pictured sneaking into Leinster House as Millie Sunderland, Age 3, from Ringsend and Charlotte Stafford, Age 3, from Sandyford protest to mark the Tobacco Industry's attendance at the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children's Public Hearings on the Public Health (Standardised Packaging of Tobacco) Bill. Millie and her friends are asking for legislation around plain packaging to be brought in to protect them from the pain, suffering and premature death caused by smoking.
The mini-protest was organised by the Irish Cancer Society and the Irish Heart Foundation who have joined a coalition of health and children's charities, including the ISPCC, Barnardos, the Children's Rights Alliance, the Asthma Society of Ireland, the Irish Thoracic Society, COPD Ireland and ASH Ireland. They have come together to support Government efforts to protect children's health by removing all branding and inserting large graphic warnings on cigarette packs and other tobacco products.
